Ulisses

Djembe takes the silhouette of the drum and renders it monumental: a goblet form in browns and bone, faceted like carved wood, standing against bare ground. Ulisses paints the instrument as a body — footed, waisted, crowned — and lets its curves keep the memory of sound. Percussion, here, is form before it is noise.
