Ídasse Malendza

Madrugada da razão — Dawn of Reason — is among the most recent works in Ídasse's current series, painted in 2024 and carrying the full tension of his mature language. The title names the hour before light: that suspended interval when the mind has not yet fully claimed the world back from sleep, when instinct and thought coexist without hierarchy.

In mixed media on canvas, Ídasse layers pigment, texture and mark into a surface that resists easy reading — figures emerge and dissolve, form coheres and unravels, the deep greens and ochres of the Mozambican earth anchoring a composition charged with interior life. The square format tightens the pressure: nothing escapes the frame, and nothing fully resolves within it. This is painting as a threshold state.
