Ídasse Malendza

Prisma do tempo — Prism of Time — belongs to an earlier moment in Ídasse's recent practice, painted two years before the artist's current series and already bearing the full weight of his mature vision. The title invokes light refracted: time not as a line but as a spectrum, where past and present coexist within the same plane of pigment and form.

In oil on canvas, Ídasse works his characteristic language of geometric fragmentation and layered figuration — faces dissolved into planes, bodies absorbed into pattern, the ochre and earth palette of Mozambique holding everything together. The result is a composition of quiet complexity, in which the eye moves between structure and dissolution, between memory and the present moment.
